Jordan and Tyler got married last weekend at Amber Grove Inn in Richmond, VA and they have such a sweet story!! The two of them met at James Madison University through a mutual friend who was absolutely positive that they would hit it off! I guess she was right, because look where they are now! More in love now than they ever have been before!! After they were set up, it only took about 3 months for them to end up dating. One of my favorite parts of their story is their proposal that Jordan told me all about!! One of Tyler's favorite things in the world (besides Jordan, of course!) is the Ole Miss Rebels. He got the two of them tickets while they were playing in Orlando, Florida so what could have made it any better?! A trip to Disney, duh!! :)Read More
To this day, I still remember the exact moment that Megan and Ben sent along their inquiry into my inbox. Ding! I opened it up, excited to hear about the newly engaged couple! As soon as I read the words "met in high school" and "10 years later, we're engaged", I got so giddy!! I absolutely ADORE a good love story and boy, do they have one! Megan and Ben met in high school y'all. How sweet is that?!Read More
Wedding planning has been in full blown high gear lately for me as we are dwindling down to only 4 months left before the big day! It's getting crazy y'all!! Something that we've been looking into recently has been a hotel block and I learned SO many different things that I would've never realized if I hadn't been going through this myself. Going through this season of life and planning our wedding myself (along with Colby, of course) has really opened my eyes and gave me so much insight into what my brides really go through. I'd love to provide some advice to you ladies for some tips of what to ask and what to look for when reserving a hotel block!Read More
Y'all - I'm here to talk to you about Father/Bride first looks! I for one am a huge fan of them. Why? Because just look at Kristen's father's expression on his face right below this!! These two are just so sweet and I am so happy that we took a few minutes to make this happen. Even if the day might be running a little late, seeing your dad before you walk down the aisle is such a special moment. I'd love to suggest some tips for brides planning these special moments in the future!
Whenever one of my brides brings up the idea of doing a first look with her father, I always give her a couple of tips/recommendations:
- Make sure it happens before the Bride/Groom first look - it can be hard to control where your father might or might not be on the wedding day and if we are in the middle of your first look with your soon-to-be-husband, it's a little hard to know exactly where your dad is! So I always recommend doing the first look with your dad first.
- Next, I always recommend doing the first look with your dad somewhere without a bunch of people around. This gives the two of you a private moment together to relax and de-stress before the ceremony! It can get awkward if there are a bunch of eyes on you putting pressure on you to react a certain way, so the more private, the better. :)
- Try to have the first look with your father somewhere somewhat near the bridal suite (lighting is always better there, less likely to see guests, etc.).
- The first look with your dad only takes like 5 minutes so don't stress about not having time for it! It's seriously one of the easiest, but sweetest parts of the day. :)
- Make sure your dad knows where to be way ahead of time and the exact time he should be there. Tell him an earlier time just so he's there on time. :)
- If your father isn't around, don't feel like you can't have this moment. There might be someone else in your life who is like a father figure to you and you are more than welcome to do the first look with them! Whoever has had a great influence in your life and means a great deal to you that you want to see, you can definitely do the first look with. I've even had some brides do it with all of their bridesmaids (together) in the past and that was super cute! :)
- Sometimes brides surprise their dads with gifts during the first looks and it's so sweet! In the past, some of my brides have gifted them with football game tickets, jerseys, a monogrammed coffee tumbler, whiskey, a watch, etc. The list goes on! I say the more sentimental, the better! :)
Getting to see your father before you go see your soon-to-be-husband or your ceremony is such a spirit lifter and I just love getting to see the way these fathers react to their baby girls. It's always so priceless and I can't help but tear up thinking about having this moment on my wedding day!
I met JD and Joo for their engagement session a year and a half ago at sunrise in Georgetown and it was such a beautiful day! I learned so much about the two of them through their engagement session and then even more on their wedding day. They are so caring towards each other and have such sweet hearts. I love the sweet smile that Joo gets every single time she looks up at JD - SO stinkin' cute! And the way JD just adores her?! Absolutely priceless!Read More
Jenny and Howie have a special kind of love that you just want everyone to witness. The way Howie speaks of her and cares for her is an old-fashioned kind of love and they are just so inspiring! I loved getting to know these two over the past years through their engagement and their wedding day. If you don't remember seeing their wedding day on the blog, make sure you read all about it here!
Jenny and Howie met when they were teenagers - how sweet is that?! I love when young couples stay together for so long and then finally get married after so many years. I feel like it makes the wedding just that much more special. It's a day that everyone seems to have been expecting for what seems a millennium. Jenny and Howie's wedding day was so special because of that and you could just see it on everyone's face at the end of the ceremony. They were all officially one big happy family even though that had lived their lives for years like that anyways! It's always so exciting when it's actually official!! :)
Their wedding day was last May and was the perfect Spring wedding! Last May was so crazy and there was SO much rain, but it held off for these two! Ironically, the same thing decided to happen for their anniversary photos this year. There wasn't a drop of rain scheduled in the four weather apps we looked through days before their session and then towards the end of the session, we felt a sprinkle. It literally came out of nowhere!! Thank goodness I teach my couples four key poses at engagement sessions so it's super easy to get all of their portraits done quickly on the wedding day! Because of this, it allows their anniversary sessions to be even easier. I love how natural anniversary sessions are because by the time it comes for them, we've worked together once or twice before and it's second-nature for them!
That was exactly the case for Jenny and Howie. We started out on the cobblestone streets with their sweet pup, Buster!! How adorable is that little guy?! He cooperated SO well and we were so proud of him - he got so much love from his parents when they got home!! We are so thankful for Mary who came along to the session as well and played with Buster while we took some photos of just Jenny and Howie! Thank you, Mary!! :) We decided to do the session in Old Town Alexandria and it just so happened to be where they grew up together and lifeguarded together at Cameron Run Regional Park! How perfect is that?!
Happy anniversary Jenny and Howie! It was so amazing getting to see you two again and I can't wait to watch your love and marriage grow every year! :)

Lindsey and Timothy are two of the kindest people I've ever met and I'm SO serious when I say that. They cared more about the well-being of every single guest at their wedding more than themselves and you could see that with every step they took. I actually met the Bruch's back in 2015 at another wedding, Lindsey's sister - Rachel! Tim and Lindsey ended up meeting each other on an online dating website and have been inseparable ever since. I love how exciting they are - they love hiking and traveling together which is such a wonderful way to spend time together. They even went skydiving for her birthday! They're so young and have already gotten to travel so much together - all the way across the United States, the Caribbean, AND Europe! Oh, and they have the cutest pup ever - Lacey!! SO adorable!!
The proposal was so heartwarming to hear about - Tim had planned it all and he proposed to Lindsey at her grandparents dock on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland! She has so many memories from this beautiful spot and it meant the world to her that the proposal happened there! Both families were in on the plan and were there when Lindsey thought she was just going to visit her grandparents. Her sister asked if she could take pictures of her outside on the dock and there popped out Tim with a ring! How cute is that?!
I arrived at the hotel in the morning to find all of the girls in matching robes and jamming out to the latest hits on the radio while they all finished up their hair and makeup. Which by the way, looked absolutely PHENOMENAL! I photographed Lindsey's thoughtful details - from her modern Badgley Mischka shoes (OBSESSED) to her heirloom wedding dress that was altered from her grandmother's wedding gown. Plus, can we talk about her gorgeous wedding colors and theme?! LOVE the deep reds and purples throughout the day!
We traveled over to Bowling Green Country Club and we finished taking portraits of the groomsmen before the ceremony started. They were having a blast and were joking around about the boutonnieres for a good 15 minutes, but it was seriously so funny!! As the ceremony started and Tim waited for his gorgeous bride to walk up the aisle, the anticipation started to pile on. His eyes were locked straight on her as soon as she turned around the corner and the emotion on his face was a look of pure admiration. The way Tim looks at Lindsey is honestly so sweet and I am so happy that they found each other!
As soon as I walked into the reception space, the first thing I laid my eyes on was their gorgeous wedding cake that was topped with strawberries and covered in chocolate!! YUM!! They also had snacks from The Popcorn Bag from right here in Fredericksburg!! I felt right at home and boy, that was the PERFECT wedding snack they could've chosen. They had such a fun wedding booth and they were even able to post a bunch of the photo booth photos on Facebook - I love that feature!
Lindsey and Tim's reception was such a blast! Plus, they had a phenomenal DJ who kept them on their feet the whole night long. A bunch of the guys, including Tim, were in a fraternity at JMU and they even played a drinking game to Thunderstruck! It was so funny!! Every time the word thunderstruck was said in the song, a new person had to start drinking until it was said again! It was so crazy, but funny!!
Another favorite portion of their reception was their sunset portrait time because can we just talk about that light?! SO heavenly!! As soon as we walked outside, I about died. It was just so dreamy and I'm just dying over those veil shots!! Eek!!
Congratulations Lindsey and Timothy!! I hope y'all have an amazing honeymoon and wonderful marriage!! :)

After getting to know the two of them a little bit better through my pre-engagement questionnaire that I send to my couples, I learned that Chase knew the owners of this cute little farm estate on Courthouse Road down the road from where I went to high school! I had always passed the farm driving to and from work when I was younger and always thought to myself that I wanted to explore it someday. I actually had been to the grounds with another couple, Kristin & Will, a long time ago because they knew the previous owners who had passed away! Regardless, the land is beautiful and I would shoot there all the time if I could. I mean, wouldn't you?! Just look at that lighting!Read More
The forecast for Rhiannon and Brett's wedding day for the majority of the week leading up to the big day wasn't the most promising. For most people, this would have really bummed/stressed them out, however it didn't even seem to affect Rhiannon and Brett. Their light-heartedness allowed them to make the best of it and really care about what matters. They were still getting married even if it was going to rain and that's just the attitude that they had about it. It spread throughout the guests and everyone was so happy for them regardless! I LOVED that and loved the fact that even though it started hailing the moment that the ceremony ended, everyone continued to celebrate the beginning of a beautiful marriage.Read More
Believe it or not, Katee and Tyler were one of the first #jesscouples ever from a while ago! I absolutely love getting to photograph these two and their kiddos every year because it feels like such a tradition. It's also extremely sweet and I feel honored that I get to photograph them and watch their family grow. How cool is it that their family has grown right alongside my business? I first met Katee when I was working with another photographer to do "boudoir marathons". We have decided to move away from that part of our businesses, but it was still a fun time! And we're still the best of friends. She's actually my maid of honor in my wedding this October. :)
